Was reading a post requesting F-150 Lexan bodies and thought “great idea.” Put the front spring spacers on the high side (top of the knuckle) back off the rear spring screw and boom if you had some tires to go with you'd be ready for that truck body. But then it hit me that the circuit board components might be too high in the rear for a truck bed.

Although if you replaced the CB with an Iwaver 02 board, removed the crystal mount and cut a hole in the top plate for the larger components it should sit low enough. Unfortunately then the battery wouldn't fit, but a single E-Tec 210 mAh cell can fix that, well almost because the battery box isn’t big enough but an little aggressive trimming can fix that problem too.

End result a svelte 61 gram chassis with an ultra low center of gravity and plenty of power.

Only problem now is where to find a Lexan truck body and appropriate tires.
As an added benefit with a Lexan body the resulting truck could conceivably come in under 70 grams

nice idea!

could you write up how you did the pcb swap?

i know some guys who could conceivably make lexan copies of trucks at that scale provided we find the originals... also, if you find the truck with a bed cover, it might be a much easier fit? you might have been thinking about that the whole time thoguh.

we need a chassis plate kit to which we can simply screw the stock components to.

The basic CB swap is simple, you unsolder the crystal mount and reconnect it with wires. Then just solder the yellow and green potentiometer wires to the Epoch pot (just as they come on the Iwaver pot) connect the power wires, put the IW servo motor in and tack the CB on top, presto your done. Basically with the exception of the pot you hook it up exactly like the Epoch CB is connected. The only body with any problem would be the Integra Type –R because the front is so low.

To turn it flat side up you have to cut holes in the top cover for it and find a LiPo battery that will fit, i.e. Kokam 145, Worley 170, E-Tec 210, the E-Tec is a tight fit have to cut sides of battery box off.

Unfortunately you do need a bed cover even with the flat mounted IW CB and it looks like an Epoch CB would need and extended cab body and still be a close call. Anyway here is my first attempt at a truck body using a thrift store find, it’s not bad but still needs some tires. Final weight 77 grams. The chassis length is maxed out I might try filing the slots to get an extra mm for perfection but for now its ok. Still working on a custom bumper for the Jeep, and a better set of pin mounts for both, made a mold out of clay, great idea courtesy of Ripper.

man those bodies are so cool! I would love an SUV.
