Default Aquaspeed motor kicks butt!

This motor rocks in an Epoch, simply put.

A stock Epoch with the Aquaspeed motor will beat a 4 cell, bug turbo & stock motor Epoch. No problems. See the video futher down in the post.

Some comparative specs.

Stock Epoch motor: 112 turn, 0.1mm wire (info from www.luckyyy.de)
Aquaspeed motor: 65 turn, 0.16mm wire

My ICE charger recorded the following.

Stock motor @ 3.6V is approx 130mA drain, no load.
Auqaspeed motor @ 3.6V is approx 270mA drain, no load.

The driver IC on your Epoch PCB will get warm, possibly hot! On 3 cells and no load, you punch the throttle back and fwd, over and over and the IC definately gets hot. But it appears to work a treat anyways. Add a bug turbo and it's just nuts! The bug doesn't break a sweat with this motor, even when running on 2P lipo, 260mah, 3.7V.

It just looks beefy, lol..........

Now check out this short 600KB video.

http://www.woahnelly.com/stuff/143/a..._4cell_bug.wmv

The red epoch is running an Auqaspeed motor, everything else is stock. The blue Epoch is running 4 cells, bug turbo & the stock motor. Not too shabby eh?

Here's the killer...

They're $9.90 at rcmart!

http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/produc...ducts_id=15101

Hurry up and go buy it already! lol..

I suggest the shop here stocks up on these buggers, they're like the xspeeds of Epoch's.

Now that's good news price is right too.
How is the low end torque/acceleration?

It's ok, no super fantastic. I need to compare a fully stock epoch to the an aquaspeed stock Epoch. Then I'll know more. It does look to me though that a turbo is really needed to get the performance out of it.

I'll drive a stocker and a speed stocker around tonight and let you know .

Got any info about more than one kyosho mini-z boat motor dude?

I wouldn't say the problem is finally solved. Maybe a custom wind around the 75 - 90 mark would be good for this motor. I haven't compared the magnets between the stock or the aquaspeed yet either, so one might be stronger than the other.

Then there are also HO slot car motor magnets as well. Hey LBRC, can you get neo magnets for this class of motor? If you could that would be just .

Rcmart is always a bit more $ for most micro stuff. It would be great if the shop can score 'em cheaper..... But who knows, it's a relatively new part/model/rc.

You can get neo’s, sort of, they come slightly too thick and have to be honed down, not fun, they are also super strong, even stronger than 130 can neo’s fortunately the thinning down helps, the real killer is price at $18 a set. I have a set that has been modified to fit, lol, and a couple of Aquaspeed’s coming so I can give them a try. I have tried them with a couple of different armatures already unfortunately along with the greater torque you also get more drag so the low end stutter is increased too.

Ball bearings are pretty easy to install and worth it in my book for the slight increase in run time. Same size as the differential mod, but you have to get the spacing just right since they are thicker than the bushings. The endbell is pretty much a straight swap, jut be sure to use something to spread the brushes or you will waste a perfectly good motor. You can easily make a brush spreader by cutting the small “U” section out of a paperclip, insert into the holes and twist to spread the brushes. The can is a bit harder since you have to modify it slightly.

The 8-tooth pinions I got work, a little short but not bad, all you have to do is put an extra spacer under the motor and everything lines up just great. How does the shaft length compare to the Epoch motor?

BTW I have a motor that ended up being a bit much for the Epoch (call it sit and spin) but it might be something in a F1 boat, can a boat motor be too fast?
