motor upgrades
Hello. What kind of motors would be suitable for upgrading an Epoch? I've seen LBRC's twin motor design and I hope to have one of those soon. Any other motors? Perhaps a bigger motor?

the kyosho aqua x-spped motor for the formula boat is the same type and is supossed to be faster however i have not bought one yet

The Aquaspeed is noticeably faster than the stock epoch, however it draws much more current so run time is proportionally shorter and there is a noticeable steering twitch.

Why would a different motor cause a steering twitch? Radio interfearance of some sort?

Voltage drop, think of it as a temporary greater demand on a finite or limited resource.
When in the shower and someone flushes the toilet… When you turn on an appliance the lights flicker... When the Epoch motor bogarts all the current the apparent voltage to the other circuits on the board drops below the minimum operating level, think of it as a form of steering epilepsy. You can be driving down the backstretch trying to use that extra speed when your steering momentarily spasms slamming your car into the wall. Not so noticeable when the car is just tooling around on a garage floor but a major pain on a track or in a race. You can also notice a similar effect with a lithium battery pack in an Epoch, when a NiMH battery pack runs out there isn’t enough current to turn the motor so the car just stops but the steering still works because there is still enough current and voltage to run the steering servo motor, with a LiPo though it’s different the voltage (force that moves the current) runs out first so there is still enough current to turn the motor slowly but not enough voltage for the steering circuitry to operate correctly. In an Epoch at ~3.6 volts the steering gets twitchy, and by the time it reaches ~3.3 the car is uncontrollable. Which BTW is why the LED on my modified Epoch’s isn’t a low voltage cutoff indicator the Epoch doesn’t need one you would have to purposely try to drain it below 2.9 volts by driving, it is simply a visual aid to help remind someone using a Lipo pack to turn the car off, leaving an Epoch ON when not in use is the only way to drain the LiPo down below minimum voltage. What about 4-celling the epoch? Why does that cause the twitching?
